A few things regarding Kayla...

You know how almost every parent on the planet thinks that their child is the "cutest, smartest, most creative, funniest child of them all"? Well, Brian and I probably fall into that category, but let me share why...

Kayla can't read yet, but she's starting to memorize stories. The other day, she sat down and started "reading" Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? She actually went through the entire book and named all the animals in the order they were in in the book. Here is a picture of her reading a Sesame Street book to her baby...

Kayla memorizes logos, which probably tells you how often Brian and I take her to the SAME places. We'll be driving down the road and she'll say, "Walmart! Let's go get an icee an pretzel!" or "Mommy, there's Lowe's!" (which is Brian's favorite place to shop, and is on the top of Kayla's list because of the cool blue car she can ride in), or "Mommy, there's Ol McDonald" (which is her name for McDonald's).

On Tuesdays, Brian and I have a Financial Peace University class in Bentonville. Because Kayla's daycare is in Rogers and about a 20 minute drive from my work, by the time I pick her up, it's time to eat dinner. Every Tuesday for the past month, I've taken her to McDonald's for dinner; partly because of their dollar menu and oatmeal -with no diced apples- for Kayla, and partly because they have an AWESOME playground. Well, a few weeks ago, there were these kids playing and they were screaming and playing pretty rough. Kayla came down off of the equipment and told me what they were doing. Every time we've gone back to McDonald's since then, she shakes her head and says, "I don't want the kids to yell at me." She never forgets ANYTHING.

This has nothing to do with her intelligence, but one of her favorite places to go is Barnes & Noble to "play with the trains" and "sit in the green chair". Here is a picture and video I took of her there on Saturday.

Here are some basic things Kayla can do at 3 years, 2 months, and 7 days:
  1. Count to 20 without help
  2. Identify all the basic colors
  3. Ride a tricycle
  4. Identify basic shapes and then relate it to real life - yesterday we were saying goodbye to Brian's parents, and Kayla said "Mommy, we're standing in a circle!" She was right.
  5. Say her full name, and tell someone the full names of Brian and I
  6. Catch and throw a ball
  7. Sing almost every nursery rhyme known to man - she has this CD that she likes to listen to every night to go to sleep to. It has basic nursery rhymes like "Hey Diddle, Diddle" & "Baa, Baa Black Sheep" (which Kayla says is her favorite).
  8. Put together a 24 piece puzzle without help
  9. Feed Norman (our 20 pound cat)
  10. Cook anything (with Mommy's assistance of course!)
  11. Complete simple algebra problems....just kidding, but I'm sure Brian will try to teach her very soon! :)
